The Dublin chapter of shesaid.so was launched in 2018 by Shauna Watson. In its first few years, shesaid.so Dublin hosted a variety of skill-share workshops on topics including streaming, industry positions, music marketing and DJing. In August 2018 they partnered with the first inaugural music festival in Dublin called We've Only Just Begun which had an all female fronted line-up. In 2020, Shauna passed over the leadership of the Dublin chapter to Lisa Murray, who adapted the community to become a safe, open and welcoming online space during the Covid-19 pandemic, hosting workshops and webinars in collaboration with IMRO, West One Music Group, the National Concert Hall and more. Now, in the post-pandemic landscape, the chapter is developing once again and gearing up for an exciting lineup of events and collaborations in the works for the coming months and year ahead! Lisa is now accompanied by chapter co-director Nikki Raymond and shesaid.so Dublin is set to work closely with the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) to bring a set of educational workshops, panel discussions and community meet-ups to the Irish music scene!

Past Events & Initiatives

DJ 101 WITH MARIA LAWLOR

shesaid.so Dublin hosted an interactive DJ workshop led by Maria Lawlor, designed to equip aspiring DJs with the foundational skills to break into the industry. The session covered technical essentials like selecting equipment and understanding BPMs, alongside practical advice on navigating a competitive and often male-dominated space. Lawlor shared insights on securing gigs, joining collectives, and the importance of inclusivity riders in creating safer, more equitable nightlife environments. The event provided a rare opportunity for participants to engage in hands-on learning while addressing the structural barriers that still persist in the DJ scene.

STRATEGIC BRANDING FOR ARTISTS

Branding plays a crucial role in shaping an artist’s success, yet it is often overlooked. This panel brought together an eclectic mix of creatives for a discussion on the impact and importance of having a strong visual identity as an artist. Moderated by Kate Brayden, the conversation tackled everything from aligning your visual identity with your music to the real struggles of breaking into the industry, getting paid fairly, and building a brand that truly reflects your values. With insights from artists, journalists, illustrators, designers, and photographers, the discussion offered practical advice and honest reflections with a lively Q&A at the end.

KIND OF A BIG DEAL - IWD SHOWCASE

For International Women’s Day, shesaid.so Dublin launched Kind of a Big Deal — a new showcase series highlighting underrepresented voices in an intimate, music-first setting. The event featured three incredible female and queer artists performing unplugged in the cosy bay windows of Mish.Mash Art Caffè, a warm, welcoming, and women-owned independent café along Dublin’s iconic Capel Street. By moving away from the late-night, alcohol-driven atmosphere of most music venues, our hope is that this stripped-back format will create a space solely dedicated to music, where artists and audiences can connect in more meaningful ways.
