About NOT BAD FOR A GIRL
NOT BAD FOR A GIRL exists to make the music industry a better place for women and gender-diverse people.
We create events, workshops, artist opportunities and releases, and we are building a cultural brand that we want to reach far beyond the people who already know us.
Alongside our events and community work, we run our record label EQUAL PARTS and work closely with emerging artists.
We are a small team with big opportunities, and this role will have the opportunity to grow alongside NBFG.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Marketing Lead to grow our audience, campaign against gender inequality, build a recognisable NBFG brand and market the things we make and sell: tickets, music and, increasingly, merchandise.
This is a role for a strategic doer. You will set the direction, look at what is working, decide what we should do next and then make much of the work yourself.
You should be equally comfortable thinking about brand and culture, checking KPIs and opening the editing software to make a post.
Social is currently our biggest marketing channel, but a major part of this role is expanding NBFG beyond Instagram and building stronger owned and commercial channels too.
Who you are:
Someone who LOVES marketing and is excited by building an audience and a fun, relevant brand.
Chronically online in a useful way. You understand internet culture, music culture, trends and why people share things.
A strategic doer who can think about the bigger picture and execute hands-on.
Able to create strong, native social content yourself, including writing, filming and editing.
Comfortable using data and KPIs to make decisions rather than relying only on instinct.
Creative, with strong judgement around brand, storytelling and tone of voice.
Proactive, capable and communicative. You spot what needs doing, get on with it and do not wait to be chased for work or updates.
Comfortable moving between cultural and commercial marketing.
Able to understand how to market a mission, not just a product. You should be engaged with gender equality and able to communicate social issues in a way that is informed, accessible, culturally relevant and compelling.
Excited by the challenge of helping a mission-led organisation grow and become more financially sustainable.
Comfortable working independently in a small, fast-moving organisation where new opportunities can arise quickly.
Experience in music, nightlife, culture or another audience-led sector would be useful, but we care more about evidence that you can grow audiences, make strong content and take ownership than having the perfect industry CV.
Key Responsibilities:
Social media and audience growth
Own NBFG’s weekly social media strategy, using our scorecard and channel performance to decide what to make next.
Create and publish a minimum of five strong Instagram posts each week.
Build a balanced mix of cultural and relatable content, music-industry conversation, NBFG storytelling and promotional campaigns.
Personally write, film and edit content rather than relying on a separate content team.
Develop TikTok into a meaningful NBFG channel.
Test new formats and tools, including Trial Reels.
Stay close to online culture, music, platform trends and audience behaviour without chasing trends that do not fit the brand.
Set and track clear growth KPIs and change the approach when something is not working.
Brand, narrative and personality
Help shape and communicate the bigger story of NBFG: what we stand for, our goals for gender equity in dance music, and how we are achieving them.
Bring more narrative and personality into our marketing so audiences build a relationship with the artists and people behind NBFG.
Guard and develop our tone of voice and brand.
Use marketing to communicate our mission and contribute to moving the needle on gender inequality in dance music.
Email and newsletter
Create and own an excellent newsletter strategy.
Grow our mailing list substantially and develop email into an important owned audience channel.
Balance useful, interesting content with commercial messages around events, releases and other NBFG activity. We want our audience to find real value in our mailers.
Track what is working and use the results to improve the newsletter over time.
Events, music and merchandise
Our core products are tickets, music and, as we develop it, merchandise. The revenue we generate from these allows us to keep pushing for change and helping more artists.
Create and roll out marketing campaigns for NBFG events, from announcement through to the final promotional push.
Work closely with the people responsible for programming, ticket sales and event delivery, turning the wider event strategy into audience-facing campaigns and content.
Create marketing campaigns for EQUAL PARTS releases that build awareness of the music, the label and the artists we work with.
Help build the profiles of emerging artists through strong storytelling and campaign ideas.
Support the development and marketing of NBFG merchandise.
Paid social
Paid social experience is useful but not essential.
If you already know how to run and optimise paid campaigns, that is a bonus.
If not, you should be interested in developing new skills and excited to learn as the role grows.
What success looks like:
NBFG’s social following grows significantly and we build meaningful audiences beyond Instagram.
Our content has a recognisable narrative, personality and tone, and more people know what NBFG is and why it matters.
The newsletter becomes a valuable channel, with a substantially larger and engaged mailing list.
Events, releases and merchandise have clear, strong marketing campaigns.
The emerging artists we work with benefit from marketing that helps build their profiles over time.
Marketing decisions are informed by clear KPIs and regular review.
The Founder no longer needs to plan, chase or hold the day-to-day marketing function.
Bonus:
Paid social experience.
E-commerce experience.
Experience in music, nightlife, culture or another audience-led sector.
Experience marketing events or record releases.
Experience growing a newsletter or other owned audience channel.
A strong interest in developing new skills as the role grows.
