Salary: £32,000-£40,000 annual salary pro rata

Time: 3-4 days/week (some infrequent, irregular hours)

shesaid.so is a global community of women, gender minorities and allies in the music industry independently built in London in 2014. Guided by intersectionality, the community now comprises 15,000+ members around the world across 20+ chapters including New York, Los Angeles, France, Germany, Sweden and South Africa to name a few. 

Our mission is to connect and support underrepresented communities towards a more equitable music industry for all, one woman or gender non-conforming individual at a time. Our community is at the core of what we do. In addition to community building, we produce content that educates and creates visibility on topics that are voted for by the community, host events that enable our members to network and create meaningful connections, and develop mentoring & other mentoring programs that provide industry access & opportunities. Overview of the Role

At shesaid.so, we owe our success to our global community of women and gender minorities in music. To help maintain and grow this standard, we’re seeking an experienced operations manager to oversee daily activities and report to the CEO. 

You will be an integral part of a small team, which delivers a variety of projects that represent and empower women and other minorities in music. You will be central to shaping an organisation which is a driving force for minorities’ interests and is focused on continuing its upwards growth trajectory. 

Your ultimate responsibility is to increase our operational efficiency in the global team and across local chapter operations. You’ll be highly skilled in human resources, project & budget management, and are passionate about lean methodologies that make our systems more efficient. Additionally, you’ll display a proven ability to develop and maintain an environment of trust, diversity, and inclusion within your team. 

Music industry experience is helpful but not required. However you will be passionate about music and about advocating for equality both within the music industry and more broadly. You will be motivated to develop your expertise in a wide range of areas.

 

Strategy

The Operations Manager will represent shesaid.so at events with other industry stakeholders, and promote our work at public speaking engagements alongside other team members. You will support with building the reputation of shesaid.so by collaborating with businesses, community organisations, and enforcing ethical business practices.

You will be responsible for evaluating the current program of partnerships and identifying logistical improvements. The Operations Manager will lead on securing new partners, retaining current partners and ensuring the execution of agreed deliverables, such as events, research and communications. This will include developing strong relationships with our key partners in the music, technology and services space and within the wider creative industries such as YouTube Music, British Council, TikTok etc.

The Operations Manager will support the CEO across a number of policy areas, ensuring that member interests are fully represented at various committees and in new policy initiatives or proposals. Policy experience is not necessary, but you will have a willingness to engage with a broad range of topics and a capacity to identify areas of interest that affect the music community and the work of the shesaid.so.

 

Operations & Events

The Operations Manager will help oversee shesaid.so’s program of events, led by the CEO and local chapter teams. This will mean delivering a range of events, both physically and online. The shesaid.so events serve to support and educate our members about the music industry; business & personal development; networking; hard skills on specific music industry topics etc. 

Working across the full array of stakeholders and partners, the Operations Manager will expand, plan and execute a compelling annual calendar of events, including both one-off events and regular series such as IMS, ADE, Alt List, MEETSSS etc. 

  • Coordinate internal and external communications between staff, members, advisors, partners and national press.

  • Local chapter onboarding and maintenance

  • Manage timely data collection across shesaid.so global and local chapter operations

  • Partner with cross-functional support teams in improving tools and systems such as Asana, Google Drive and Slack

  • Work with the CEO and partners to increase income through special programs and sponsorship.

  • Conduct budget reviews and report cost plans on specific projects

  • Support with production of ongoing projects and initiatives across content, social media, mentoring programs, job listings and brand partnerships

  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes for new projects and initiatives

Who you are

  • 4+ years’ proven experience in an operations management position

  • Strong budget development and oversight skills

  • Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of branch operations and member support

  • Trained in conflict management and business negotiation processes

  • Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and/or Google Workspace

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong marketing operations skills, including database development

  • Experience working in a startup environment where there is little oversight
