About BOXOUT.FM

The real genesis of boxout.fm can be traced back to New Delhi in the November of 2016.

Envisioned back then as a community platform serving India’s non-mainstream music audience, boxout.fm’s trajectory began with the official launch of its online radio arm in April of 2017.

Crucially, and at a time where curation had almost universally ceded to the algorithm, boxout.fm offered up 24/7 radio programming curated and presented by passionate radio hosts, DJs, and diehards. A curious dive into its archives will reveal an authentic snapshot of India’s diverse and genre-be-damned musical landscape.

Coinciding with the launch of the online radio, boxout.fm began slowly cementing its status as a living and breathing entity through regular event programming and partnerships.

Boxout Wednesdays, now India’s longest-running midweek club night would become the cauldron through which a new and active music and art community would be born. In addition, both Jazz Weekender and Boxout Weekender upped the ante for homegrown music festivals in the Indian subcontinent.

A forerunner in the space of collaboration, boxout.fm expanded its reach across geographies with partnerships with longstanding institutions such as Institut Français’ Fête de la Musique, Goethe Institut and the German Embassy, The British Council, Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council, as well as younger cultural juggernauts like Boiler Room, Rinse France and Worldwide FM.

Keen on walking the talk and showcasing the hidden talents of India and beyond, boxout.fm’s in-house label boxout.fm Recordings regularly releases a stream of alternative music that defies stylistic and cultural boundaries.

Over and above, in a world that is increasingly being boxed-in, boxout.fm encourages you to think global and listen local.

This project marks the revival of Boxout.fm’s physical radio space and the launch of a daily morning show on YouTube, creating a long-term, sustainable hub for independent music, culture, and community-driven storytelling in India.

By reestablishing a dedicated HQ and studio space, we will bring live radio broadcasts, artist sessions, and community engagement back to life, making it an essential meeting ground for India’s underground music scene. To expand its reach and ensure longevity, we will introduce a daily morning show that blends music discovery, cultural conversations, artist interviews, and underground storytelling in a fresh digital format.
