About Mahalla
Mahalla is a collective and curatorial platform for emerging music from the SWANA region founded in 2021. Mahalla advocates for better representation of artists from the SWANA region and the diasporas. Through spaces of intercultural connection and togetherness, Mahalla strives to amplify marginalised voices and foster a vibrant community of artists and audiences. A female-founded and led organisation, Mahalla promotes the diversity of musical forms and genres with an intersectional approach.
Though Mahalla was born in the North-Eastern side of Paris, the collective has been running programs outside of Paris and especially in Marseille where a part of the crew is based.
With the support of True Music Fund, Mahalla will team up with Marseille-based organisation Cultur’all Massalia to curate a special program in the Mediterranean city of Marseille. The program will include a music line-up amplifying female and non-binary voices, and involving both local and international artists. In addition to the music program, a workshop conducted by one of the programmed artists will be organised for the local community of artists, and a public discussion will tackle the input of diasporic communities in emerging music scenes of the city.
